PSY, Super Junior to Heat Up Mnet’s Music Awards in Hong Kong

Korean pop sensation PSY and K-pop icon Super Junior members are visiting Hong Kong next month to participate in Mnet’s year-end music awards.

The K-pop leaders have confirmed their attendance for the 2012 Mnet Asian Music Awards [2012 MAMA], slated to open at Hong Kong’s Convention & Exhibition Centre on November 30, Mnet said in a statement Monday.

“We have been receiving overwhelming inquiries about their attendance at the 2012 MAMA, since they are two of the most popular K-pop stars these days. We are preparing for best performances to make sure that the singers can touch the heart of all music fans again this year,” Mnet's general director Han Dong-cheol was quoted as saying.

The list of nominations for awards will be announced on Mnet’s “Wide Entertainment News“ on Tuesday at 5 p.m. KST, the officials noted.

MAMA, known as one of the biggest music events in the country, first started out as Mnet KM Music Video Festival in 1999. After renewing itself as the MAMA, the channel brought the festival to Macao and Singapore in order.

With some named K-pop artists such as Girls' Generation, 2NE1, Super Junior and BEAST, Japanese soloist Koda Kumi as well as American musicians Will.i.am, Dr. Dre and Snoop Dogg joined last year’s MAMA.
