“The Greatest Love” rises as new champion on TV chart

MBC’s romantic series “The Greatest Love” emerged a new champion on the Wednesdays and Thursdays primetime slot, according to the results shown by two media research companies on Friday.

“The Greatest Love,” a comical romance between a top celebrity and a former idol singer, came in first after posting average viewership ratings of 14.8 percent on Total National Multimedia Statistics’ (TNmS) chart and 17.6 percent on AGB Nielsen Media Research’s (AGB) poll, both numbers improving by over three percentage points compared to last week.

The show starring Kong Hyo-jin, Cha Seung-won, Yoo In-na and Yoon Kye-sang, tells the story of love, romance and jealousy surrounding top star Dokgo Jin, past idol star Goo Ae-jung, young doctor Yoon Pil-joo and famed singer-actress Kang Se-ri.

SBS's new drama “City Hunter” debuted at No. 2 on the chart, after collecting average marks of 9.7 percent on TNmS’ report and 10.8 percent on AGB’s survey, respectable scores for show's premiere week.

“City Hunter,” starring Lee Min-ho, Park Min-young and Gu Ha-ra, is a romance-action flick about a young man set for revenge against five corrupted politicians responsible for the death of his father after being trained by his father’s friend in the wilderness of Thailand.

Meanwhile, KBS series “Romance Town” also landed at second place on TNmS’ ranking by scoring the same mark as "City Hunter" but was placed third on AGB's poll after posting an average mark of 10.6 percent.

“Romance Town,” starring Sung Yu-ri, Jung Kyu-woon and Kim Min-joon, tells a story of a love triangle between charming housekeeper No Soon-keum, the son of the rich household Kang Geon-woo and their neighbor Kim Young-hee.
