Korean idol Yoona of Girls' Generation has been cast as the female lead in an upcoming TV series opposite Hallyu star Jang Keun-suk, according to the show's promoter Tree J. Company on Monday.
Tree J. announced in a press release that Yoona will portray a double -- one named Kim Yoon-hee (the mother) and another named Yoori (the daughter) in the series named "Love Rain" (tentative title) which is scheduled to air during the first half of next year.
The new series, which will go into shoot at the end of this month, is a collaboration between famed director Yoon Suk-ho and scenarist Oh Soo-yeon who has worked on hit series "Autumn Tale" and "Winter Sonata."
"We decided to cast Yoona as both Kim Yoon-hee and Yoori since she has this sense of innocence and purity which can be found in both characters," director Yoon was quoted as saying.
Yoona made her debut in the nine-member female idol group Girls' Generation in 2007. Outside of her group activities, she has starred TV dramas "You are Destiny (KBS, 2008)" and "Cinderella Man (MBC, 2009)."
