TV series "Birdie Buddy" starring After School member UIE and actor Lee Yong-woo, has been sold to nine countries ahead of its premiere, according to the show's production company Group 8 on Wednesday.
"Japan, the U.S., Thailand, Malaysia, Singapore, Indonesia, Brunei, Cambodia and Laos have purchased rights for the show even before a date for its airing in Korea got set, while more negotiations are underway," an official at Group 8, the famed producers of hit Korean series "Boys Over Flowers," told 10Asia over the phone.
Based on a presidential award-winning comic series of the same name by Lee Hyun-sae, "Birdie" is about the world of female golfers.
UIE will play the role of Sung Mi-soo, a poor girl from the country side who dreams of becoming a famous golfer and Lee Yong-woo will take on the role of John Lee, a pro golfer and love interest to Mi-soo.
