Female K-pop group Girls' Generation's Japanese debut single "GENIE" has placed at No. 4 on the prestigious Oricon weekly singles chart.

A press release from SM Entertainment on Tuesday announced that the girls have ranked fourth on Oricon's weekly singles chart for the week of September 20 after selling 45,000 copies of their debut record in its first week of going on sale, the highest number of albums to ever be sold by a foreign female artist, including solo performers.

They had recently placed atop several Japan music charts including iTunes' music video charts, music .jp and mobile music site recochoku, while their DVD "‘少女時代到 ~日記念盤~New Beginning of Girls' Generation" had taken the No. 5 spot on Oricon's weekly DVD chart as well.

The nine-member girl group made their debut into the Japanese pop scene late last month, holding a live showcase with over 22,000 fans in attendance and promoted “GENIE” in the country starting last week.
