Hyun Bin signs up for Marine Corps

Actor Hyun Bin caused a stir on the Internet today after it was belatedly revealed that he signed up for the Marine Corps as part of fulfilling Korea's two-year mandatory military duty.

"Hyun Bin went in for the interview last month after volunteering to join the Marine Corps. The final results will come in February and if he passes, he will start serving his duties as early as March," an official from his agency AM Entertainment told 10Asia over the phone on Wednesday.

Over multiple occasions last year, his agency had downplayed news that the actor has received a draft notice and will enter the military before the new year.

Hyun Bin, whose real name is Kim Tae-pyung, rose to fame after starring in smash hit series "My Name is Kim Sam-soon" alongside actress Kim Suna in 2005. He has also starred in other dramas including “World’s Within” (KBS, 2008) and "Friend, Our Legend" (MBC, 2009).

He is currently starring in hit SBS TV series "Secret Garden" opposite actress Ha Ji-won. The show is a romantic comedy which tells the story about a man and woman's soul that becomes switched.

He also has two films set for release next month including "Late Autumn," which stars Chinese actress Tang Wei, and a romantic drama flick titled "Come Rain, Come Shine," co-starring Korean actress Lim Soo-jung.
