The disaster-action flick was inspired by an old Mayan prediction that the world will come to an end in the year 2012.

The film held a much-hyped world promotion tour in September, including a press conference in Seoul which was attended by main character and top Hollywood actor John Cusack, director Roland Emmerich of "Independence Day" and producer Harald Kloser of "Day After Tomorrow".
