Boy band Super Junior triumphed at the 24th Golden Disk Awards on Thursday as they collected a total of three awards including the prize for best artist of the year.
"It has been our dream since we were trainees to stand on this stage to receive this prize. We will push forward to attain all our dreams," the group said in their acceptance speech, adding that they also thank their agency and fans.
Female idol group Girls' Generation took the award for best digital song of the year. The band had enjoyed great popularity this year, having back-to-back hits with singles "Gee" and "Tell Me Your Wish". "Gee" remained atop a broadcaster's music chart for nine weeks in a row.
"We had been going through hard times since last year but prepared this album with our trust in each other...... We are happy because we got here through our trust and love for each other as well as our passion," the girls said as they wept with joy.
Artist Jang Ki-ha took the rock award, Epik High the Rap/Hip-hop award while girl groups 4minute and T-ara were awarded the prizes for best new artist. Boy band SHINee shared the title for popularity with Super Junior.
