TV series "Queen Seon-deok", currently Korea's most popular TV program, will end its run on December 22, according to its broadcaster on Monday.

"We will not extend the showing of the drama but halt it at episode 62," MBC stated, playing down speculation that more episodes of the hit TV series may be produced. The drama had already been extended by 12 episodes in September from the original 50.

The Monday and Tuesday night series starring Lee Yo-won and Uhm Tae-woong has been a huge success, remaining atop weekly TV charts in viewership ratings for most of its showing since late May.

Its ratings had soared to the mid-40 percent range for several episodes ahead of actress Koh Hyeong-jeong's exit from the show. She had played the role of Queen Seon-deok from the Silla Dynasty, the twenty-seventh ruler and the first reigning queen of the period.

"Pasta", starring actress Kong Hyo-jin and actor Lee Sun-kyun, will air after the ending of the historical drama.
