Jang Keun-suk debut single debuts atop Oricon daily chart

Singer and actor Jang Keun-suk’s debut album “Let me cry” has claimed the No. 1 spot on Japan’s prestigious Oricon chart.

Oricon’s official website showed that Jang’s Japanese debut single “Let me cry" (Limited Version) entered the daily chart first as of April 27, the day of its release, after selling a total 56,923 copies.

“I checked the Oricon chart as soon as I heard it was updated and I was hardly able to contain my happiness once I saw my album placed atop the daily chart," Jang was quoted as saying in the statement.

"This is all thanks to my fans who have waited patiently for the album despite the delay in its release date due to March 11 earthquake. Thank you so much and I will do my best to keep my work up."

The latest result does not come as a surprise however, as both the limited and regular versions of the album had taken the No. 1 and 2 spots, respectively, on the weekly pre-order charts of popular online music retailer HMV in late January of this year and racked up over 150,000 pre-orders in total.

The album’s regular version contains songs "Let me cry,” “Bye Bye Bye,” and “Oh my darling!” while the limited version includes “Let me cry,” “Bye Bye Bye,” and “一?につくったメロディ (Melody made together)” along with a video showing the process of the album's recording and jacket-making.

Jang, as one of the hottest Hallyu stars in the Asia region, has been a popular celebrity in Japan since starring in SBS hit series "He's Beautiful" as the eccentric lead singer of the idol group A.N.JELL.

He kicked off his Asia tour “THE CRI SHOW” over the weekend that will cover Taiwan, Hong Kong, Thailand, Singapore, Malaysia and other countries.
