Big Bang re-signs with YG Entertainment
Top Korean K-pop band Big Bang has renewed their contract with major talent agency YG Entertainment.
A press release by YG announced Thursday morning that the quintet, which debuted with YG five years ago, extended their contract with the firm by another five years.
"The members of Big Bang, who we have been with for almost ten years starting from when they were trainees, are like real family to YG. We're extremely grateful for them showing their faith and trust in the agency they debuted through," YG said in the statement.
Big Bang's contract renewal is expected to dispel all rumor and speculation of members of the group being in discord and even going as far as disbanding, which arose when they were absent from the local music market for over two years.
The final year of a contract are critical moments for K-pop groups -- a number of them have ceased their activities or split up depending on which members stay and leave their agencies.
Big Bang, composed of G-Dragon, T.O.P, Seungri, Taeyang and Daesung, was discovered and trained by major talenthouse YG Entertainment and after leading a successful career in Korea, they crossed over to the Japanese music market in 2009 where they again garnered much popularity.
