Lena Park's remake takes over Gaon chart

“I Hope It Would Be That Way Now,” solo songstress Lena Park's remake of a past song for MBC’s music reality show “I’m A Singer,” debuted atop Gaon’s singles chart for the week of May 8 to 14.

“I Hope…,” performed during singing mission part 3-1 named “Songs I Wish I Had Sung,” is a ballad originally from singer Cho Yong-pil’s 12th album released in 1990.

The song which sings of returning to the place one truly belongs, helped Park rank the highest on the first half of the music competition against six other singers.

Girl group 2NE1's “Lonely,” a ballad as well, entered the chart at No. 2. The track is set to be one of the songs to the girls' upcoming mini-album set for release on June 23.

The song which is about a girl who bids goodbye to her boyfriend because she no longer feels the same emotions for him, demonstrates the powerful vocals of the girls on the backdrop of the guitar, cello, violin and other string instruments.

“Ma Boy,” a medium-tempo love song by girl group SISTAR’s unit group SISTAR19, went up two spots to arrive third on the chart.

Neo-soul in genre, its lyrics expresses the feelings of fondness and anxiety felt by a girl who is in love.

Meanwhile, SS501 member Heo Young-saeng’s first solo album “Let It Go” bowed on the top of the album's chart on the first week of its release.

The album composed of five tracks including the title track of the same name with the featuring by Hyun-a of girl group 4minute, include both dance and ballad tunes.

The No. 2 spot went to 4minute’s first regular album “4MINUTES LEFT” that surged four steps from last time.

The album, featuring 10 tracks including “Mirror Mirror,” “Heart To Heart” and “Sweet Suga Honey!” was released in mid-April.

Another newbie to the latest Gaon chart was singer-songwriter Chae Su-in’s first regular album “New York Love Story Vol. 1” released in late April.

The album which is mostly formed of songs that are a crossover of pop and rock, was motivated by Chae’s life in New York. For example its title track “N.Y.L.S." which sings of one's memory of first love, combines the sound of electronic guitar and string instruments.
