Park Yuchun drama title changed to "Miss. Ripley"
The title to an upcoming TV series starring Park Yuchun has been changed from "Ripley" to "Miss. Ripley."
The announcement came during the press conference for the drama on Tuesday, confirming a new title for the third time.
The show was originally named "Goodbye Miss Ripley" but was changed to "Miss Ripley," then "Ripley," then to "Miss. Ripley."
"We took out the 'goodbye' because of superstition surrounding it, then we took out the 'miss' because we felt that it would limit the title's meaning, but we put it back in to convey the meaning of the show properly," Choi Yi-seop, the producer of the drama explained.
'Ripley,' meaning 'women will pave their own fates,' is based on the motif of Shin Jeong-ah, a scandal-ridden former curator who was put behind bars for 18 months for faking a university diploma and misappropriating funds of an art gallery she once worked for.
The show got its name from 1999 movie" The Talented Mr. Ripley" starring Matt Damon which told of his character Tom Ripley struggling to make a living in 1950s New York City through forgery, laying and impersonation.
"Miss. Ripley," also starring Kang Hye-jung, Kim Seung-woo and Lee Da-hye, will be a conventional melodrama telling of people's desires and love hidden behind the fancy success and failure the four characters experience on the backdrop of a top hotel in a main city.
