"The Journals of Musan" picked must-see movie in NY magazine
Korean film "The Journals of Musan" was selected one of the top ten must-see movies by a magazine in New York.
According to the official website of Time Out New York, "The Journals of Musan," both helmed by and starring director Park Jung-bum, was chosen by its critics as a must-see movie alongside international films "Bombay Beach," "The Guard," "Higher Ground," "Jiro Dreams of Sushi," "L'Amour Fou," "The Last Rites of Joe May," "Roadie," "The Sweet Season" and "The Trip."
"Musan," which opened in local theaters on Thursday, tells the story of a North Korean defector (played by Park) who tries to adapt to South Korea's capitalist society. He faces much discrimination in trying to find a decent job and making friends at church.
The film has won a slew of accolades from various international film festivals including the New Currents Award and International Federation of Film Critics (FIPRESCI) Award at the 15th Busan International Film Festival last October, a top prize at the 10th Marrakech International Film Festival held in Morocco in December and the Tiger Award -- a competitive category which screens directors' first or second-time feature films -- during the 40th International Film Festival Rotterdam in February.
