A local low-budget film named “A Fresh Girl” (2009) has been invited to compete at the Boston International Film Festival scheduled to run from April 15 to 24.

According to the official website of the fest, “A Fresh Girl” helmed by director Kim Jung-ho and starring actress Kim Se-in, will be screened in Session 26 of the event on April 21 with film “Unholy Ground” by director Ken Miller.

The 94-minute film, about a teenage girl called Cheong-ah who works part-time at a gas station in order to support her crippled and drunk father, is based on Korean fairy tale of a similar story “The Story of Sim Cheong,” about a filial daughter who sacrifices her life to cure her blind father.

The film re-interprets the motif from the old fairy tale to portray a cruel and tragic world in which Cheong-ah loses hope and ends up in a situation where she has to sell herself.

“I would like to thank the actress who gave her all for the movie and the crew members who made this film possible,” director Kim as quoted as saying in the statement released by Daeheung Entertainment.

The same film was also screened at the Chungmuro International Film Festival in Seoul last year.
