If you have been watching "Dream High," you probably know how senseless and optimistic the show is in regards to the dreams it speaks of. We all know that "not giving up even if there is no chance of winning" is not an easy of an answer like the drama suggests and that in reality, dreaming and working for that dream does not guarantee success and happiness. But "Dream High" tells us to realize how beautiful youth is for the mere fact that young people go for what they want without fearing reality first. That is the show ending with Sam-dong (Kim Soo-hyun) and Hye-mi (Bae Suzy) in the year 2011 instead of 2018 was a very "Dream High"-like ending. Years later, the six members of group Dream High lead different lives and they cannot dance nor sing together anymore. But at her 100th concert, Hye-mi sings the first song she sang for Sam-dong a long time ago. Time has passed and Sam-dong and Hye-mi have achieved their dreams but their hearts are in the past state when Sam-dong told Hye-mi, "You are my music and music is you." That is why the ending scene where Sam-dong and Hye-mi kiss on the bus with their places switched this time, shows the seemingly open yet closed world of "Dream High." It was a unique show where idols played the role of idols and Yang Ji-man (Park Jin-young) parodied his real self from reality. Most of the comical elements the drama held fast to was from the real world that exists outside the drama. But "Dream High" made up for the improbable development of its story and weak plot by showing how "they shine and are beautiful even when they face setbacks" and those students will now live with the memory that they are happy to know that those were happy moments for them. So although "Dream High" may have been disconcerting to watch at times and tacky in how it talks about dreams and love so directly, it proved it was able to capture viewers' hearts simply by doing its best to show how brightly the six shine while in their years everyone reminisces on. Whether you watched the show or not, one point that cannot be denied is that "Dream High" was the most unexpected drama this past winter.
