Korean pop singer Kan Mi-young has won the award for Best Foreign Artist at an annual Chinese music awards ceremony, according to a report on Monday.

The singer was reportedly ecstatic after finding out she had been chosen as the top foreign artist at the 7th Southeast Music Ranking Awards, held on Friday in Fuzhou, China.

"I think I gained a lot of things from working in China for the past two years," the singer was quoted as saying. "I'm happy and grateful to even be on this stage with such talented singers."

Previous winners include H.O.T. member-turned-solo artist Kangta, balladeer Shin Seung-hun and idol group Super Junior-M who won last year for "Best Group in China".

The ceremony, attended by numerous Chinese singers, aired on China's state-run broadcaster CCTV as well as in other Asian countries including Hong Kong, Taiwan, Malaysia and Singapore.

The 27-year-old singer debuted in 1998 as the lead singer of the former girl group Baby V.O.X. After the group disbanded in 2006, she launched her solo singing career.

Kan will be returning to Korea soon to record her single album due out in January 2010.
