Korean singer Wheesung has joined Universal Music Group (UMG) and famous American producer Rodnery Jerkins to take off his career in the United States, according to his agency on Wednesday.
This the first time that an Asian singer has signed a contract with UMG to release an album in the U.S. The American producer will produce a digital single album for Wheesung, which is set for release early next year.
"Two tracks have been recorded so far and we will be very careful and meticulous in preparing for a market that is not easy to approach," Pop/Up Entertainment was quoted as saying. "Jerkins was wowed by Wheesung's talent and is trying to get him to work with top American artists like Ne-Yo, Akon and Usher."
Jerkins is an accomplished producer who has collaborated with some of the biggest names in the music business including Michael Jackson, Beyonce, Whitney Houston, TLC and Toni Braxton. He also helped another Korean singer Se7en with his U.S. debut.
"I hadn't even thought of being given this opportunity, so words cannot express how happy I am." the 27-year-old singer was quoted as saying.
