Singer Oh Won-bin holds showcase in Japan

Oh Won-bin, the former member of Korean rock band FTIsland, held his first showcase in Japan over the weekend, according to his agency FNC Music on Monday.

FNC explained through a press release today that Oh attracted over 1,000 viewers to his showcase event held in Tokyo last Saturday to promote his indies solo debut mini-album “C’mon Girl” released on March 14.

Oh performed several songs in his album during the event starting with the title track “C’mon Girl” to “Love You, I Love You”, “空から降りてくる,” (Descend From The Sky) “友達だと思っていた” (Not Only Friends) and as a fan service, the soundtracks to popular movies such as “Falling Slowly” from "Once" and “This Time” from “August Rush."

He also sent out words of comfort to his Japanese fans suffering from the latest series of earthquakes and tsunami that has hit the country since March 11. “I believe you will never give up and eventually overcome the present pain. For those who attended my showcase, I hope you'll take all the positive energy from this place," he was quoted as saying in the statement.

The earthquake and tsunami has left at least 21,000 people dead or missing and thousands homeless in the eastern part of the country.

Oh’s Japanese agency FNC Music Japan later added that Oh, grateful to his Japanese fans, decided to donate part of the profits from the latest event to Japanese Red Cross for the victims.

Oh, 21, debuted as a member of rock band FTIsland in 2007 but he left the group in January 2009 due to his difference in music style to his group and in the same year, participated in making the soundtrack for a mega-hit Korean drama “He’s Beautiful.”

He kicked off with his solo activity by releasing his first digital single “I Love you and I Love you” in November of last year.
