Korean singer Jang Woo-hyuk has become the first Korean singer to perform at China's state-run broadcaster CCTV's major New Year concert, announced his agency WH Entertainment through a press release on Tuesday.
Jang, the only Korean invited to the event by CCTV, sang his song “Sun That Never Sets,” rearranging the melody and choreography dance to fit the occasion and bid the audience a happy New Year in fluent Chinese.
The latest gala was broadcast live around the world to CCTV's some 1.1 billion Chinese viewers.
Jang officially began his career in China last year after completing his two-year mandatory military service and signing with Chinese entertainment firm Huayi Brothers Media Group.
Jang, 32, began his career in 1996 as a rapper in the now-disbanded idol group H.O.T which was one of the hottest bands during the 1990s. He is set to return to the music scene in both Korea and China this year with a new album.
