Korean movie "Aeja" topped the Korean box office chart over the weekend for the first time since its release.


"Aeja" took the No.1 spot with 324,817 viewers between September 18 and 20, according to estimates released by Korea Box Office Information System (KOBIS) on Monday.

The film has accumulated nearly one million viewers since its opening two weeks ago, with the figure for second week increasing from the first.


"Take Off", which had stood atop the chart for the past five weeks, stepped down to second place, attracting 204,052 viewers during the weekend and grossing over 7.5 million since its release in late July.

"Ugly Truth", a new romantic comedy film starring Katherine Heigl and Gerald Butler, came in third with 128,445 viewers. Heigl recently made headlines adopting a baby girl from Korea with her husband.

"The Case of Itaewon Homicide" stood at fourth place with 112,540 viewers for the weekend and 477,510 to date.


Korean summer blockbuster "Haeundae" added 66,852 viewers to its already-past 11 million viewer record.
