Korean female idols Girls' Generation have been announced the winners of two trophies for Japan's MTV music video awards.


The official webpage of MTV Video Music Aid Japan (VMAJ) revealed on Monday that the Japanese version of Girls' Generation hit song "Genie" won the award for Best Group Video and Best Karaokee! Song against other international singers such as Britney Spears, Justin Bieber and Linkin Park.

The award ceremony for VMAJ had taken place at Japan's Makuhari Messe Convention Center in the Chiba Prefecture on June 25, while SHINee and Girls' Generation were invited to the event to represent Korea.


Girls' Generation has been one of the most popular female idols group in Korea and throughout Asia since making their debut in 2007. The girls successfully expanded their singing career into Japan in August of last year and will be releasing a new DVD series which will show of their travels in Phuket.

Recently, the nine-member girl group, along with songstress BoA, were invited to Japan's Summer Sonic Festival in August, making them the first female Korean artists to take part in the major music fest.
