Ha Ji-won's sci-fi film scores 46 deals at Cannes film market
Upcoming Korean sci-fi flick "Sector 7," starring actress Ha Ji-won, has caught the attention of numerous foreign buyers at Cannes Film Market, selling to a total of 46 countries at the event held in time with the Cannes Film Festival.
A press release from the movie's producer JK Film announced that at the film market held during the film fest into its 64th year, Ha's picture was pre-sold to a number of countries including France, Switzerland, Belgium, Luxembourg, Germany, Austria, Iran, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Lebanon, Palestine, Algeria, Egypt, Ethiopia, Taiwan, Indonesia, the Philippines, Singapore, Malaysia, Vietnam, Thailand and Turkey.
An official from CJ E&M explained that they received a slew of inquiries for "Sector 7" due to the advantage it saw in utilizing 3D and the market's increased faith in Korea's technological skills such as in the level of completion of the computer graphics.
"We believe that we will continuously pick up deals for distribution rights for 'Sector 7,'" the official was quoted as saying. "We feel that many of the buyers shown interest in our booth since we had presented the promotional video in 3D."
"Sector 7," produced by Yoon Jae-kyun and helmed by director Kim Ji-hoon, is about people's fight against a monster on an oil prospecting ship.
The movie, which is scheduled to hit local theaters on August 4, will star other Korean actors Ahn Sung-ki and Oh Ji-ho.
