World-leading Korean soprano Sumi Jo has recorded one of the soundtracks to an American TV series.
Universal Music Korea announced on Jo's official website today that the songstress recently sang one of the songs in the soundtrack to American drama “Mildred Pierce" starring actress Kate Winslet.
Jo did the recording for the drama’s theme song “I’m Always Chasing Rainbow” while four of her other existing songs including “Queen of Night Aria” are set to be featured in the show as well.
“Mildred Pierce,” based on the 1941 novel by James M. Cain set during the Great Depression of the 1930s, tells of the struggles of middle-class housewife Mildred Pierce who tries to stay afloat amid the financial hardships and family tragedy she suffers.
Starring other actors Guy Pearce, Evan Rachel Wood and Brian F. O’ Byrne, the series kicked off on HBO on March 21 and is set to air on Korean cable channel Cinef starting June.
Jo, 48, classified as a coloratura soprano, made her official debut with her role as Susanna in the opera "The Marriage of Figaro" with the Seoul Opera in 1983. After leaving for Italy to further her studies in music, she attracted the attention of the top conductor Herbert Von Karajan and was cast to play a role opposite Placido Domingo in "Un ballo in Maschera" at the Salzburg Festival in 1987.
