Korean comedy “The Last Godfather” is set to premiere in the United States in April, according to CJ Entertainment on Wednesday.

A press release by CJ explained that Korea's CJ Entertainment and U.S. distributor Roadside Attractions LLC, the subsidiary of Lionsgate Co., signed a Memorandum of Understanding that agreed to take “The Last Godfather” to 12 major cities in the U.S. and Canada including New York, Los Angeles, Chicago, Toronto and Vancouver on April 1.

According to the MOU, Roadside is in charge of the film’s distribution while its mother company Lionsgate will have exclusive rights for its home videos and other side-revenues.

“The movie’s premiere in America is significant in the sense that another Korean film has advanced to the global market,” an official of CJ Entertainment was quoted as saying in the statement, adding that the company is being contacted by neighboring Asian countries and Europe as well.

Korean veteran comedian Shim Hyung-rae-helmed “Godfather,” also starring Shim himself and other Hollywood actors such as Harvey Keitel, Michael Rispoli and Jason Mewes, is about rural Korean boy Yong-gu taken to New York to be trained as the heir of a large mafia group.
