Film “Hello Ghost” to be remade in Hollywood
Korean film “Hello Ghost” will be re-made in Hollywood, according to the film’s promoting agency All That Cinema on Thursday.
According to All That Cinema’s press release today, the rights to remake “Hello Ghost” was sold to American director Chris Columbus and his production company 1492 Pictures at this year's International Film Festival in Berlin, with director Columbus himself planning to helm the American version of the pic.
Columbus is known worldwide for his hit films including “Home Alone 1” (1991), “Home Alone 2: Lost in New York” (1992) “Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone,” (2001) “Mrs. Doubtfire," (1994) and “Percy Jackson & the Olympians: The Lightning Thief” (2010).
The statement explained that the famed director was taken by the solid story containing various emotional themes that transcends cultures and generations. He came across “Hello Ghost” which opened partially in Los Angeles.
The film’s distributor NEW too expressed faith toward the director in re-making the local film about family love dealt within a unique storyline.
Meanwhile, the film has also been published as a fantasy fairytale for children titled “Little Hello Ghost” and additional discussions are set to take place in regards to utilizing the pic for various cultural content for children.
Film “Hello Ghost,” starring Cha Tae-hyun, Kang Yae-won, Lee Moon-soo, Ko Chang-seok and Jang-young-nam and Cheon Bo-geun, is a fantasy comedy about a guy who starts seeing four ghosts -- a pervert, a chain smoker, a crying woman and a child -- that will not leave his side until he grants them their wish.

The film succeeded in bringing in over 3.4 million viewers after opening in theaters in late December last year.
