Vampire threequel "The Twilight Saga: Eclipse" proved to be a hit on the Korean box office on its opening weekend, as in other countries, bowing into the No. 1 spot in local theaters after its July 7 release.


Figures from the Korean Box Office System (KOBIS) released on Monday indicated that "Eclipse" attracted 777,154 moviegoers during the weekend of July 9 to 11.

The latest "Twilight" installment, starring Kristen Stewart, Robert Pattinson and Taylor Lautner, is about how Bella is faced with choosing between her love for Edward or her friendship with Jacob. Bella must also make a choice on remaining human or becoming a vampire.


U.S. animated picture "Shrek Forever After," voiced by Mike Myers, Eddie Murphy and Cameron Diaz, dropped a notch from the previous week to second place over weekend, selling over 554,299 tickets, while Korean war flick "71 Into the Fire" held onto the same position as last week with 313,739 tickets sold.

Hollywood action film "Knight & Day" slipped two spots to No. 4 with 288,027 admissions, followed sequentially by "Man of Vendetta" with 214,873 admits.


Other movies on the top 10 included "A Story of Bangja," "Arthur and the Revenge of Maltazard," "The Killer Inside Me," "Splice" and "Barefoot Dream."
