Cho Seung-woo, Park Geon-heong cast as leads in musical "Zorro"
Korean actors Cho Seung-woo and Park Geon-heong will star in the musical "Zorro," according to their respective agencies on Wednesday.
Cho, Park and musical actor Kim Joon-hyun will rotate the main role of Don Diego de la Vega/Zorro in the upcoming musical "Zorro" which will raise its curtains at the Blue Square in Seoul on November 4 and run till January 15, 2012.
"Zorro," which first opened in Eastbourne of London in 2008, is based on the 2005 mock biography of the same name as well other Zorro-related works including the 1998 Hollywood film "The Mask of Zorro." The show was transferred to the West End, a popular district in London for mainstream theater, after its successful trial run tour.
The original production has also earned several awards and nominations including the Laurence Olivier Award for Best actor and Best Supporting Performance in a Musical for Matt Rawle and Lesli Margherita, respectively, while several countries including Shanghai, Rio de Janeiro, New York and Amsterdam will open "Zorro."
Cho made his debut in 1999 and has starred in a number of high profile films such as "The Classic (2003)," "Marathon" and "Tazza: The High Rollers." He has also led a successful career in musicals including "Carmen," "Rent," "Hedwig and the Angry Inch" and "Jekyll & Hyde."
Park has led a well-recognized career on the small screen with appearances in "When the Spring Flowers Bloom (KBS, 2007)" and historical series "The Kingdom of the Winds (KBS, 2008)." He also starred in the dance movie "Innocent Steps" opposite actress Moon Geun-young and musicals "Hamlet," "Three Musketeers" and "Mozart."
