Two Korean shorts invited to Cannes Critics' Week

Two Korean short films have been invited to the 50th anniversary of the Critics’ Week program at the Festival de Cannes next month.

According to the official website of the prestigious film fest on Tuesday, director Lee Tae-ho's short flick "In Front of The House" and helmer Moon Byoung-gon's pic "Bul-Myul-Ui-Sa-Na-Ie" will be screened at Critics' Week alongside seven feature films, four special features and eight other shorts at the 64th Cannes fest held from May 11 to 22 this year.

The winners of the competitions will be decided by juries led by famed Korean director Lee Chang-Dong (Chairman of the Jury Grand Prize Feature films), whose works include "Poetry" and "Secret Sunshine," and Jerzy Skolimowski (Discovery Award Short Film).

Previous Korean films that have been invited to Critics' Week include director Hur Jin-ho's "Christmas In August (1998)," Jung Ji-woo's "Happy End (1999)," Park Jin-young's "Too Young To Die (2002)," and Jang Cheol-soo's "Bedevilled (2010)."

Meanwhile, feature films "The Day He Arrives" helmed by Hong Sang-soo, "Arirang" by "Kim Ki-duk and "Yellow Sea" directed by Na Hong-jin will be screened under the noncompetitive Un Certain Regard category.

Known as one of the world's oldest and prestigious film festivals, Festival de Cannes was founded in 1946 in the resort town of Cannes in the south of France.

This year American actor, director and producer Robert De Niro will be President of the Jury, French film director Michel Gondry will head the short film and Cinefondation, French actress Melanie Laurent will be the mistress of the ceremonies, Serbian auteur Emir Kusturica will preside over the jury for Un Certain Regard and Korean director Bong Joon-ho will be the President for the Camera d'or Jury.
