Joko Anwar nabs It Project award at 2011 NAFF

Indonesian director Joko Anwar was awarded the top award for his film "Modus Anomali" at the fourth edition of the Network of Asian Fantastic Films (NAFF), the industry program of Puchon International Fantastic Film Festival (PiFan).

"Modus Anomali" was named the winner of the Bucheon Award at the NAFF Closing & Award Ceremony held at the Koryo Hotel on July 20.

"Modus Anomali," about a man who must escape his killers by making his way out of a jungle after being buried alive, had competed against 17 other movies from eight territories.

Other winners at the ceremony included Josh Kim's "Whatever Happened to the Guy Stuck in the Elevator?" from Korea for the NAFF award; Choi Hyung-rock's "Human Resources" from Korea for the Daisy Award; Cho Eun-sung's "Underground" from Korea for the Korea Broadcasting Art School Award; Kim Sung-ho's "A Girl with Sushi Knife" from Korea and Choi Hyoung-rock's "Human Resources" from Korea for the Post-Production Support Award; and Lim Tae-hyung's "Two Rabbits in Osaka" from Korea was give the Korean Film Council Award.

The winners were chosen from a jury composed of Michelle Son, the managing direct of M-Line Distribution, Mathew Tang, the Head of Productions at EDKO Films Ltd., Gloria Fan, an executive producer at Mosaic Media Group, and Yuji Sadai, founder of the distribution and production company Bitters End.

NAFF, which ran for four days starting July 17 this year, presented various projects from B movies and independent films to commercial movies. The It Project selected 18 projects as well the Japan Project Spotlight focusing the latest trends and films from Japan.

This year NAFF also held forums about new media, Korea-Japan co-productions as well as the Fantastic SF forum.

PiFan, which kicked off on July 14, will end its run on Sunday with closing film "Blind."
