Ryu Si-won becomes 1st Korean to win car race in China

Hallyu star Ryu Si-won has become the first Korean racer to win at a car race held in China, according to his agency R's Company.

On Tuesday, R's announced in a press release that Ryu won the Ferrari Challenge Race which took place at the Zhuhai City of Guangdong Province in China from June 17 to 19.

This year's Ferrari Challenge Race was held in the formats of Coppa Shell and the Trofeo Pirerlli, named after an oil and tire company, while the car used for the race was the Ferrari 458 model.

Ryu finished in first place in the first and final races of the Coppa Shell class and is currently ranked at No. 5 amongst other racers including Chinese actor and singer Aaron Kwok.

"It was a great experience and I gave it my best since I was chosen to represent Korea and it feels great to win," Ryu was quoted as saying.

"It was a bit hard to get used to the car at first but I'm glad that I finished the race successfully. I want to thank all those fans of mine who have come out to support me and to the Forza Motors Korea for giving me this chance."

Ryu will take part in the second round of the Ferrari Challenge Race which will take place in Shanghai next month.

Ryu, singer and actor, made his debut in 1994, and has starred in various dramas including "Secret" (2000, MBC), "Beautiful Days" (2001, SBS) and "Style" (2009, SBS).

He has led a particularly successful career in Japan since debuting in the country six years ago, selling out all five of his concert tours held throughout the country as well as becoming the director and race of his own pro car racing team 'TEAM106.'
