Korean actor Joo Sang-uk celebrated the establishment of his official fan club in Japan over the weekend, informed his agency Madin Entertainment on Wednesday.

According to a press release by Madin, Joo met with some 800 Japanese fans who gathered at the opening ceremony for “Joo Sang Uk Japan Official Fanclub” held last Friday at Shibuya in Tokyo.

The actor has been preparing for his activities overseas since early this year, signing a contract with Japanese agency ANGELIQUE and opening his personal homepage.

At the fan event, Joo prepared special gifts for his Japanese fans including an apron which he wore in KBS drama “The Thorn Birds.”

He also sang to some of his favorite Korean songs on the spot including singer Yim Jae-beum’s “Soar” and a duet piece “It’s Raining” which he sang with singer Park Sang-min in 2009.

“I’m greatly touched to get to share this special moment with fans when it is already an honor to see such high interest in me in Japan. I will cherish the memory of today's meeting and repay you with better work,” Joo was quoted as saying in the statement later.
