Actress Sin Se-gyeong has been cast in a new historical drama set to air in the latter half of this year, revealed her agency Namoo Actors on Monday.


A press release by Namoo explained that Sin has been set as the female lead to an upcoming SBS TV series titled “A Tree with Deep Roots” (translated title) also starring actors Han Suk-kyu and Jang Hyuk.

In the drama set in 15th century Korea, Sin will play a young palace maid who gets her aphasia cured in the process of helping scholastic King Sejong create a new writing system for commoners to read and write.


Han will take on the role of King Sejong and Jang, a slave-turned-government official.

The drama will be helmed by producer Jang Tae-yu joined by scenarists Kim Young-hyun and Park Sang-hyun who have co-written other fusion historical dramas such as “Queen Seondeok” (MBC, 2009) and “Painter of the Wind” (SBS, 2008) and will go on air on September 28.


The story which based on the novel of the same name by writer Lee Jung-myung, is based on the true achievement of Great King Sejong (1397-1450), the fourth ruler of the Joseon Dynasty (1392-1910) also known as an inventor and a great politician.


Sin who debuted in 1998 rose to stardom with the smash hit sitcom “High Kick 2” which aired from 2009 to 2010.

She recently completed shooting a noir drama film titled “Blue Salt” also starring Song Gang-ho and Chun Jung-myung and is currently shooting another film “Take Off: Closer to the Sun” (translated title) with singer-actor Rain as her co-star.
