Female idol group Girls’ Generation, currently preparing for their Japan tour, has decided to hold a total 10 concerts in the country, according to several Japanese media outlets including Saneki Sports on Wednesday.


According to an article by Sankei Sports today, Girls’ Generation decided to expand the scale of their concert, from giving seven performances in four cities to 10 performances in six cities, following high demand from fans.

The paper explained that over 300,000 fans were competing for 60,000 tickets, leading concert organizers to arrange additional concerts in Yokohama and Hiroshima.


Yokohama’s concert will take place at the Saitama Super Arena on June 4 and 5 and Hiroshima’s concert at the Green Arena on July 2.

Girls’ Generation was originally set to kick off the tour in Tokyo on May 18 but postponed it following the March 11 earthquake that devastated the eastern part of the country. The first concert has been rescheduled to May 31 in Osaka.


Meanwhile, the group’s third Japanese single “MR. TAXI/Run Devil Run” will go on sale today.


Girls' Generation, which is one of the most well-known female idol groups in Asia, made their debut in Korea in 2007 under SM Entertainment with their first album "Into the New World" and has since produced a several hit songs including "Gee," "Genie" and "Oh!"

They expanded their careers into Japan in August of last year where they have enjoyed much success, becoming the first Korean girl group to place No. 1 on the Oricon chart and wining several gold disc status for selling over 100,000 copies for their other albums including first single “Genie” and their DVD “少女時代到 ~日記念盤~New Beginning of Girls' Generation.”
