Asia's largest annual film festival held in Korea's port city of Busan has changed its name from Pusan International Film Festival (PIFF) to Busan International Film Festival (BIFF).

The fest's committee announced through a press release on Thursday that they agreed to change PIFF to BIFF in line with the spelling of the city changed from Pusan to Busan in 2000 following the revision of the Roman alphabet's internal notation.

The festival had maintained its original name till last year but decided to change it starting this year due to the continued confusion it caused for visitors to the event from overseas.

Accordingly, the name for the fest's project market Pusan Promotion Plan (PPP) has been changed to Asian Project Market (APM) and the official website from www.piff.org to www.biff.kr.

The statement also said that the official venue for the film event, set to complete construction in September, will be called Dureraum or Busan Cinema Center in Korean.
