Hip-hop duo Garion won three crowns at this year’s Korean Music Awards (KMA) held last night, disclosed the official website of annual awards ceremony on Thursday.

According to the website, Garion, composed of rappers MC Meta and Naachal won the awards for album of the year and best hip-hop album of the year with their second album “Garion 2,” and best hip-hop song of the year award for one of its tracks “Most Urgent”.

Garion, formed in 1998, released their first album in 2004, has been active artists in the underground music scene.

Meanwhile, the prize for song of the year went to the rock band Hot Potato and the musician of the year award to Galaxy Express.

Girl group miss A claimed the trophy for best dance & electronic song with their debut song “Bad Girl Good Girl” and another girl band 2NE1, a win for best dance & electronic album with their first regular album “To Anyone.”

Taeyang of boy band Big Bang and Kim Yoon-ah of group Jaurim were handed the titles for best male and female musician of the year, respectively, and five-member girl group f(x), best group musician of the year.

KMA, celebrating its eighth year, was established to award high-quality music based only on artistic value and not popularity or sales figures. Judges are composed of music experts from various fields including journalists specializing in music in TV, radio and magazine, as well as music professors and civic organizations.
