Actor Lee Byung-hun has left for the U.S. to shoot Hollywood's sequel to blockbuster movie "G.I. Joe: The Rise of the Cobra."

Lee's agency BH Entertainment issued a press release on Thursday, saying that Lee left for the U.S. yesterday to get ready to film the movie in New Orleans starting August 15.

Lee left early to take time to adjust to the time zone difference and analyze his character before the film cranks in, BH explained.

Lee, 41, will reprise his role as Storm Shadow from the first movie, as will actors Channing Tatum, Ray Park and Arnold Vosloo do so as Duke, Snake-Eyes and Zartan, respectively.

The movie, known simply as "G.I. Joe 2," will be helmed by director John Chu of the "Step Up" series, instead of Stephen Sommers, and is set for a premiere in the summer of 2012.
