Girls’ Generation's first full-length album has topped Japan's prestigious Oricon chart on the day of its release.

According to the official website of the chart today, Girls' Generation's "GIRLS' GENERATION" which went on sale yesterday, saw 75,583 copies sold to make them the first Korean female group to place their album atop Oricon's daily chart immediately after its release.

The outcome had been predicted given that the album had topped several pre-order charts in the country which resulted in the shipment of over 500,000 copies beforehand, explained the group’s agency SM Entertainment through a press release.

Starting this week, the girls kicked off their nationwide concert tour in Japan titled “Girls’ Generation ARENA Tour 2011,” performing in Osaka on May 31 and June 1.

The girls attracted about a 20,000 fans in total, singing some 30 songs that included their biggest hits in the country such as “GENIE,” “Gee,” “Run Devil Run” and “MR. TAXI,” their hit songs from Korea such as "Oh!" and "Into the New World" which have yet to be officially introduced in Japan and individual performances by the members.

The group is now headed to Tokyo, Osaka, Saitama, Hiroshima, Nagoya and Fukuoka till July 18 for the rest of their tour.

“We are extremely happy to have completed the first leg of concert and to hear that we came first on the Oricon chart. We’ll continue to work hard for our remaining concerts so please keep loving and supporting us,” the members were quoted as saying in SM’s statement.

The group is also scheduled to take part in “MTV VIDEO MUSIC AID JAPAN,” one of the biggest music festival in the country set to take place in Chiba, Tokyo on June 25.

The group, composed of members Taeyeon, Tiffany, Hyoyeon, Sunny, Jessica, Seohyun, Yoona, Yuri and Sooyo, is currently one of the most well-known female idol groups in Asia which made their debut in Korea in 2007 under SM Entertainment.

They expanded their careers into Japan in August of last year where they have enjoyed much success, becoming the first Korean girl group to place No. 1 on the Oricon chart and wining several gold disc status for selling over 100,000 copies for their albums.
