Big Bang member Daesung is under investigation for his involvement in a car accident that has resulted in a death.

According to police, Daesung, 22, was driving his car when at 1:28 am on Tuesday he ran into a taxi and motorcyclist at the end of Yanghwa Bridge in Seoul.

The taxi's driver had stopped his vehicle to call police after discovering the motorcyclist on the ground and bleeding, apparently from another accident, when Daesung hit the motorcyclist and then into the taxi about 40 meters away on the downhill segment of the bridge, police explained.

"Daesung did not see the taxi and the motorcyclist, so he had hit on his brakes after hearing a noise but they failed to work," police stated.

The taxi driver suffered minor injuries but the motorcyclist is now dead.

Police have said Daesung was not under the influence of alcohol but are now looking into whether the motorcyclist was dead before Daesung's accident based on an autopsy on the motorcyclist and investigation into CCTV footage, witnesses and analyses by the National Forensic Service.

He will also undergo questioning for speeding -- the speed limit on the bridge is 60 kilometers an hour but Daesung testified he was driving at 80.

Big Bang, one of the most popular boy bands in Korea since their debut in 2006, has numerous hit songs under their belt.

They have also led a successful career in Japan since their debut there in 2009, most recently topping the prestigious Oricon daily chart with their second full-length Japanese album『BIGBANG 2』.

They were on a brief break after wrapping up a two-week long tour in Japan to promote the release.
