SHINee to represent Korea at MTV music award in Japan

Boy group SHINee will represent Korea at one of Japan’s biggest music award festivals, revealed Dream Communications, the promoter of global music channel MTV on Thursday.

A press release by Dream Communications explained that SHINee will be the only Korean idol group invited to perform at the "MTV Video Music Aid Japan (VMAJ)" scheduled to take place at the Makuhari Messe Convention Center in the Chiba Prefecture on June 25.

Top singers in Japan including AKB48, Exile and Monkey Majik, as well as world-class pop stars such as Lady Gaga and Tokio Hotel will take to the event's stage as well.

Also, Korean female group Girls’ Generation has been nominated in three categories for the fest including “Best Group Video,” “Best Video of the Year” and “Best Karaokee! Song.”

Last year, Korean male group Big Bang won the trophies for best rookie, best pop group and best collaboration video while TVXQ took home the award for the best group video.

"MTV VMAJ," which celebrates its 10th anniversary this year, is a combination of a music festival and an awards ceremony that decides on winners solely through online and mobile voting and is set for live broadcast to the Asian countries of Korea, China, Singapore, Malaysia, Vietnam, Hong Kong, the Philippines and Indonesia.

In line with this year’s title that includes the term 'aid,' the show will be linked to the Japanese Red Cross to take initiative in helping the victims of the March 11 earthquake by donating 10 yen for each phone call that is cast for a vote.

In the meantime, SHINee is set to release their first Japanese debut single "Replay" which will hit stores on June 22, while the ringtone version of the song has already topped Japan’s Recochoku daily mobile music chart upon its release late last month.

They are also set to embark on a nationwide fan meeting tour in Japan titled "SHINee JAPAN DEBUT PREMIUM RECEPTION" in July with shows in Tokyo, Osaka, Nagoya, Fukuoka and Sapporo.

Composed of members Key, Minho, Jonghyun, Onew and Taemin, SHINee is one of Korea's most popular male groups who made their debut in 2008 under major talenthouse SM Entertainment. They have produced a number of hit songs including "Reply," "Ring Ding Dong" and "LUCIFER."
