Girls’ Generation to embark on concert tour in Japan
Korean idol group Girls’ Generation will tour Japan for the first time starting May, informed their agency SM Entertainment on Tuesday.
According to a press release by SM today, the nine-member girl group will hold a total of seven concerts in four cities throughout Japan including Tokyo, Nagoya, Osaka and Fukuoka with the tour set to kick off at Tokyo’s Yogyogi National Gymnasium on May 18.
Girls’ Generation is also scheduled to release a new single in Japan titled “MR.TAXI / Run Devil Run” on April 13; “MR. TAXI” will be the group's first original single in Japanese which is not a translation of their previous hit songs in Korea and “Run Devil Run” topped the ringtone and download charts of Japan's biggest mobile music site Recochoku shortly after its release as a digital single in the country in January.
This will be the group’s third Japanese single following “Gee” and “GENIE” both released last year which claimed first and second place under rookie category of the prestigious Oricon's yearly chart for 2010.
Girls' Generation, one of the most well-known female idol groups in Asia, made their debut in Korea in 2007 under SM Entertainment with their first album "Into the New World" and has since produced a several hit songs including "Gee," "Genie" and "Oh!"
The group then debuted in Japan in August of last year and have enjoyed much success there as well, becoming the first Korean girl group to place No.1 on the Oricon chart and wining several gold disc status for their albums which sold over 100,000 copies including for their first and second album “Genie” “Gee” and DVD “少女時代到 ~日記念盤~New Beginning of Girls' Generation.”

Meanwhile, the girls are also expected to head to Thailand on March 12 to take part in a concert titled “KOREAN MUSIC WAVE IN BANGKOK” to be hosted by Korean public network MBC to celebrate its 50th anniversary this year.
