Girls’ Generation, 2AM win 2010 Golden Disk Awards

Idol groups Girls’ Generation and 2AM won the top prizes at the 2010 Golden Disk Awards held Thursday.

At the 25th Golden Disk Awards held at Korea University in Seoul on December 9, nine-member girl band Girls’ Generation and four-member boy band 2AM won the grand prize for album and grand prize for digital sound source, respectively.

Girls’ Generation had enjoyed much success on music programs and various charts this year with two full-length albums released in January and March, along with a repackaged album which contained the girls' past title songs “Oh!” and “Run Devil Run."

Girls’ Generation also won the main prize for album alongside DJ DOC, SHINee, Super Junior, BoA, as well as the title of most popular artist with boy band SHINee. The Asia popularity award to Super Junior, the winner of last year’s Golden Disk with their title song “Sorry Sorry.”

Meanwhile, 2AM's song "Can't Let You Go Even If I Die" ranked No. 1 for the longest on digital songs charts during the first half of 2010. They also took the main prize for digital song with female singer I.U.

Separately, BEAST, Secret and Sister won the awards for best new artist and Supreme Team for best hip- hop artist and rock band FT Island for best cosmopolitan rock.

The Golden Disk Awards selects winner based on the number of albums sold among those released from December 2009 to November 2010, popularity votes and decisions of the judges.
