Korean film “Vegetarian” has been invited to the 26th Sundance Film Festival set to be held next month, according to the film's distributor on Thursday.


Sponge ENT said the pic, helmed by director Lim Woo-seong, had been officially selected to compete against 13 other films from countries including Iraq, New Zealand and Poland in the World Cinema Narrative category.

Based on a novel of the same name, actress Chai Min-seo and actor Kim Hyun-sung starred in the film which portrays the human's inner desire through main three characters. It was first shown to the public at the 14th Pusan International Film Festival (PIFF) in October.


The Sundance Film Festival, widely known as the world’s top festival for independent films, is held at Park City, Utah annually.

Several Korean films including “This Charming Girl” by director Lee Yoon-ki and “The Peter Pan Formula” by director Cho Chang-ho have been invited to the festival previously.


This year's fest is scheduled to be held from January 21 to 31.
