Shinhwa’s Kim Dong-wan cast in KBS’ new daily TV series

K-pop idol Shinhwa member Kim Dong-wan will return to the small screen as the male lead in an upcoming KBS daily series.

Kim's promoter The J Story said in a press release Monday that the singer and actor will take on the role of Kim Tae-pyeong, a good-looking and skillful housekeeper in the series whose translated title is "Cheer Up, Mr. Kim."

Set to make its premiere in November after current series "Reaching For the Stars" ends its run, "Cheer Up, Mr. Kim" tells the story of a 32-year-old bachelor named Kim Tae-pyeong who becomes the guardian of four children.

“I’m bit nervous in starring in a long term series but I'm relieved since I will be working with a great crew. I'm looking forward in portraying my character who is unlike any of the other roles that I have played before," Kim was quoted as saying.

The forthcoming series will be helmed by director Hong Seok-gu of "Marry Me, Mary" (KBS, 2010) and written by writer Cho Jung-joo of “The Princess’ Man” (KBS, 2011).

Making his debut in 1998 as member of the still-alive idol group Shinhwa, Kim has also been gaining popularity as actor after starring in several dramas and films including "Goodbye Sadness" (KBS, 2005), "My Dearest Love" (SBS, 2007), and thriller pic "Deranged." (2012)

Kim’s critically-acclaimed special drama “Zenith” (MBC, 2011), in which he played legendary Korean poet and anti-Japan resistant Lee Yook-sa, has been nominated for Best TV movie award in upcoming Seoul Drama Awards, set to take place at Seoul’s National Theater of Korea on August 30.

The aforementioned TV movie has took home a trophy after receiving the grand prize under the “TV Special - Dramatic” category at the 2012 Worldfest-Houston International Film Festival, held between April 13 and 22.
