Girls’ Generation to join Japan’s MTV music fest in June

Girls’ Generation will join in the MTV music award festival in Japan scheduled for next month, informed Dream Communications, the promoter of the global music channel MTV on Thursday.

A press release by Dream Communications said that the nine-member girl group will join K-pop group SHINee in taking part in the "MTV Video Music Aid Japan (VMAJ)" set to take place at the Makuhari Messe Convention Center in the Chiba Prefecture on June 25.

SHINee was originally the only group invited to the event but Girls' Generation came to be included as well since their first full-length Japanese album is set for release on June 1.

The girls had already been nominated in three categories for the fest including “Best Group Video,” “Best Video of the Year” and “Best Karaokee! Song.”

Girls’ Generation which debuted in Japan in August last year, has been continuing to record hits in the country, winning gold for all three of their singles "GENIE," "Gee" and "MR.TAXI/Run Devil Run,” for selling over 100,000 copies each.

"MTV VMAJ" is a combination of a music festival and an awards ceremony that decides on winners solely through online and mobile voting and is set for live broadcast to the Asian countries of Korea, China, Singapore, Malaysia, Vietnam, Hong Kong, the Philippines and Indonesia.

Celebrating its 10th anniversary this year, "MTV VMAJ" will be hosted by Japan’s most popular idol group AKB48 with the participation of Japan’s top class singers including Exile, Nishino Kana, Monkey Majik, as well as artists from America and Europe such as Lady Gaga, Tokio Hotel and One Night Only.

Also, in line with this year’s title that includes the term 'aid,' the show will be linked to the Japanese Red Cross to take initiative in helping the victims of the March 11 earthquake by donating 10 yen for each phone call that is cast for a vote.
