Girls’ Generation's Japanese singles to be released in Korea
Idol group Girls’ Generation will release their Japanese singles in Korea soon, revealed their agency SM Entertainment on Tuesday.
According to a press release by SM, the nine-member group’s hit Japanese singles “GENIE,” “Gee,” and “MR.TAXI/Run Devil Run” will go on sale in Korea starting tomorrow and be offered in regular and limited versions, with the latter containing DVDs.
"GENIE," the group’s first single in Japan released in the country in early September of last year, has gone down in J-pop history as the most-sold debut single for a foreign female artist while their second single “Gee” released the following month made the group the first Asian female band, excluding Japanese groups, to rank in the top three slots of Oricon's weekly singles chart.
Their third single “MR.TAXI/Run Devil Run” released late last month too swept various music charts in the country, taking the No. 1 spot on Oricon's daily singles chart as well as that of the country’s biggest mobile music chart RecoChoku and i-Tunes’ singles chart.
All three singles sold over 100,000 copies each and were certified golden disc status by the prestigious Recording Industry Association of Japan (RIAJ).
Girls' Generation, one of the most well-known female idol groups in Asia, made their debut in Korea in 2007 under SM Entertainment with their first album "Into the New World" and has since produced several hit songs including "Gee," "Genie" and "Oh!"
