JYJ Junsu tapped PR ambassador for Korean musical awards

Junsu of male trio JYJ has been appointed the promotional ambassador of a local musical awards ceremony in Korea set for early next month.

According to a press release by the event's organizing committee, Junsu was chosen the PR ambassador to the 5th edition of The Musical Awards ceremony co-hosted by the Korea Musical Theater Association, JoongAng Daily and JoongAng Daily’s cable channel jTBC set to be held at the Sejong Center for the Performing Arts on June 7.

The final nominees for the awards will be announced tomorrow from among 26 musicals featured nationwide from May of last year till the April of this year.

Junsu, whose real name is Kim Jun-su, debuted as a musical actor last year, playing a lead role in the musical “Mozart” which became one of the top-selling musicals that year after attracting over 100,000 viewers during a month-long performance, and earned him the award for best rookie at two major musical awards ceremonies.

Then early this year, he worked with Frank Wildhorn, the renowned composer of “Dr. Jekyll and Hyde,” and Gabriel Barry, the producer of the film “Sweeney Todd” and America’s top music star Brad Little for his second musical project “Tears of Heaven,” where he starred as a Korean solider falling in love with a Vietnamese woman.

“Tears of Heaven” proved to be a hot ticket-seller as well, its seats selling out in minutes of going on sale. He is currently gearing up for another round of “Mozart” which is set to run from May 24 to July 3.

Kim is currently a member of singing trio JYJ, formerly part of boy band TVXQ, which recently completed the final leg of their world tour in Asia over the weekend and is headed to North America for concerts in Vancouver, New York, Los Angeles and San Jose.
