4minute to sing soundtrack for J-drama
Female idol group 4Minute has sung the theme song for a Japanese drama, informed the girls’ agency Cube Entertainment on Monday.
According to a press release by Cube today, the five-member girl group has recorded the the opening song “WHY” for TV Asahi’s new detective series "Akutou: Juuhanzai Sousahan” (惡黨重犯罪搜査班)" starring renowned Japanese actor Katsunori Takahashi, which went on air starting January 21.
“WHY” is an electronic dance number with a fast beat which intends to highlight the future action scenes within the drama as the story unfolds.
The girls are currently working on their new single album that includes “WHY” which is set to go on sale in Japan on March 2.
This is the second time 4minute has taken part in an original soundtrack for drama -- the first time was for the Japanese version of the opening song for Korean drama “Master of Study” (KBS, 2010) which received favorable reviews during its broadcast on TBS.
4minute, composed of members Ji-hyun, Ga-yoon, Hyun-a, Ji-yoon and So-hyun, made their debut in Korea with the single "Hot Issue" in 2009.

They branched out into the Japanese market in May of last year, becoming the first K-pop girl group to do so, producing three Japanese singles "Muzik," "I My Me Mine" and "First." The group's first full-length album "DIAMOND" went on sale in early December.
