Korean actor and comedian Shim Hyung-rae starrer “The Last Godfather” debuted atop the local box office over the New Year weekend, according to data by Korean Box Office Information System (KOBIS) on Monday.
Also directed by Shim himself, “Godfather,” which opened in 638 theaters nationwide on December 29, brought in a total 940,662 viewers between December 31 to January 2.
“Hello Ghost,” starring Cha Tae-hyun and Kang Yae-won, placed at No. 2 for the second consecutive week, attracting 493,457 viewers during the past three days.
“Hello Ghost” too is a comedy, about a guy who starts seeing four ghosts -- a pervert, a chain smoker, a crying woman and a child -- that will not leave his side until he grants them their wish.
"Sea" tells the story of a cash-desperate Korean-Chinese who goes to Korea to commit a murder to make money but finds the murder has already been carried out and yet is accused of the crime.
Other films in the top 10 were “Harry Potter And The Deathly Hallows: Part 1,” “TRON: Legacy,” “Sammy's Adventures: The Secret Passage,” “Pokemon DP: The Ruler of Illusion Zoroark,” “The American,” “The Petty Love Affair,” and “The Next Three Days.”
