Korean singer Kim Dong-wan will make his debut as a musical actor through production "Hedwig and the Angry Inch," according to his agency Live Works Company.

On Tuesday, Liveworks announced in a press release that Kim has been cast to play the lead role of transgender rock singer Hedwig, while the lead role will be rotated by Choi Jae-woong, Jo Jeong-seok and Kim Jae-uck.

"Hedwig and the Angry Inch" first began its run in Korea in 2005 and saw a sold-out for each performance. The role of Hedwig has been played by popular Korean actors including Cho Seung-woo, Hong Kwang-ho, Oh Man-seok and Song Chang-eui.

"I feel so honored that my first musical role is for a production that many people have enjoyed," Kim was quoted as saying. "I'm sort of pressured to take on a role that has been played by great actors so I will do my best."

Making his debut in 1998 as one of the lead singers in the six-member boy band Shinhwa, Kim has also expanded his career into acting, appearing in several dramas including "Goodbye Sadness" (KBS, 2005) and "My Dearest Love" (SBS, 2007) and movie "Spin Kick, Taekwon Boys" (2004).
